You Know You Want A Discount [#4]
An early review is in the trades, and Barnes & Noble is offering a 25% off to reserve your copy...
Hey y’all,
Still hoping for a buoyant new year despite the traumatic start in California in particular. My kids were set to perform at the Monterey Park new year festival on Sunday and we were up early getting ready when I learned the news. Horrific violence shattering the togetherness at a studio where older Asians went to dance together really devastated me. There’s a chapter in FLAWLESS about elderly Koreans who come together to do the same thing.
I am reminded by writer Chanel Miller that we hold so many things at the same time:
So I write with hopes for perspective, wholeness and peace in the new year. It is the year of the rabbit after all, a zodiac animal that symbolizes peace.
And now, some book updates…
An early review from Publisher’s Weekly is in and I was mainly psyched that anyone read the book, and even more psyched that reviewers said it was: “Nuanced, wide-ranging, and fluidly written, this peels back the layers of a powerful cultural trend.”
Save 25% off Flawless if you order this week at Barnes and Noble, using the promo code PREORDER25. This sale lasts until Friday only, so if you haven’t reserved your copy, now’s the time to get in on the discount.
Pitching and booking early interviews is already underway. If you have a podcast, news org, newsletter or in-person group that might be down for talking about the tensions of appearance culture and what we can do about it for future generations, reach out to me!
I’ve been talking with a lot of other authors for advice, and some of them have debuts coming out this year, like me. So I plan on doing a post in the coming month to share their books! I cling to advice that author Nicole Chung gave me, about how it’s crucial to form community with other authors who are roughly in the same “class,” that is, debuting the same time, because you can laugh and share and commiserate about the experience and it forms a forever bond.
What questions do you have about the process, the book, or anything else? How do you want to pitch in as we bring this book baby into the world? I am here and eager to correspond, always. As usual, if you know of folks who would be interested in this free newsletter, send it on and have them subscribe.
To a peaceful new year,
Elise
Woohoo! Any tour dates set?
