The Technological Gaze is Now A TED Talk [#24]
I love that the ideas in a book can find lives of their own, in different forms.
Hi from LA, where it finally rained. :)
Exciting news in Flawless land! One of the ideas in the book, about the technological gaze, is now in a TED Talk. And it’s finally out on TED.com and available for everyone who wasn’t in the live audience to see.
Watch the talk: How Digital Culture is Reshaping Faces and Bodies
It condenses and expands on the book in that it’s about what we are expected to conform to when it comes to our looks, and how the standards are increasingly set by digital culture, through a technological gaze. Aspiring to a filter-driven sameness is marginalizing for everyone who can't meet the reigning standards, and exhausting for those who can. Give it a watch, share it with anyone who might find it compelling, and let me know what you think or how we can advance these conversations.
Coming Soon IRL
March 28: Los Angeles - The AWP Conference and Bookfair
And I am still cranking on Flawless, the screenplay adaptation, which is very different than the non-fiction book. So much fun to tackle this challenge but I am also having to stretch and grow beyond ways I thought was possible.
Okay that’s it from here!
Let me know what you think of the talk, and please link and share it if you feel compelled.
Until next time,
E
So good Elise!!! 😘
Loved your Tech Gaze TED Talk, can't wait for the movie!
